Use of 100% high grade acetone is essential; it's stored in metal pint or quart tins in the paint section at the hardware store, not at
Walmart or Target.
Is there something wrong with the acetone in the metal container in
Wal-mart's paint section?
I have used "100% pure" from
Walmart and (oh no...also the dollar store!). Neither leave residue when evaporated from a clear glass plate, hence no residue on coins either.
The label says "100$ Pure," yet the bittering agent Denatonium Benzoate is listed on the ingredients. So how can the acetone be marketed as 100% pure?
see:
http://www.nailsmag.com/blogpost/10...is-not-equalIt comes down to this:
To prohibit drinking of acetone, Denatonium Benzoate is added in quantities of only 10 parts per million(!).
The amount of Denatonium in the acetone is equivalent to adding 1 drop of blue food coloring to 134 gallons, or over 1/2 ton, of water. After mixing thoroughly, how much blue is visible? None.
For all
practical purposes, we did not really increase the volume of the water by adding just one drop. Now we know why the acetone is 100% pure.
