Another nice GSA Morgan; I think this is the best of my three 1884 CC GSA's. VAM-3A is another heavily clashed (3+ clashes) VAM, featuring a die break/chip at the top of the left wreath, a counter-clash break behind the cap at the ribbon area, and on the right inner side of the wreath, near the top, you can find two V-shaped clashes, with a third V-shaped clash a bit lower down the wreath. The date is doubled, and a die crack runs along the bottom of the numerals. The VAM 3 stages seem to be less common than the VAM 4 and its die stages, although both the VAM 3x and 4x coins are given as R4-R5 scarcity. My opinion is that this coin, which has great luster and remarkably clean surfaces, is MS 64. The clash marks are clearly visible, and the freshness of the strike is attested to by the planchet roller marks on the cheek and nearly unbroken frost. What do you think? 63? 64? 65? I'd be at 64. Just a couple less marks, regardless of their description, on the cheek, would have moved it to a 65 pretty smoothly.
Why, pray tell, did you decide to nab these four?

I have had these four coins for a couple of years, and the pictures I had previously taken ranged from bad to terrible, so I re-shot them for the Days Of Morgans thread. :) As an aside, the four coins I posted are all complete with their OGP (cards and boxes), and I paid less than $200 for each of them. The two VAM 4's will be sold at Heritage in an upcoming auction.

I do believe we could have a pretty good war with the 63's against the 64's. It's just nice that the AU and 61's stayed home
