Can anyone help me out, I found this 1987 Washington quarter in my pocket change yesterday and I think it may be a error coin, but in not sure due to the fact it is a circulated coin not the best condition. Could someone please confirm or deny if confirming please explain.

We'd need pictures to tell. There are tutorials on how to post pictures when you write a full reply.

If you are talking about the rim ding at 8:30 on the reverse, looks like circulation damage, PMD

I agree that the rim looks like it took a hit. I'm not so sure about what happened to the word STATES. Maybe it is the result of a grease-filled die.

I didn't even notice the STATES. Looks like it and part of the pluribus fell victim to some grease on part of the die.

A Grease Filled Die is an interesting curiosity and worth keeping in my opinion, even if it is only worth face value.

Thank you all for your input . I felt the same about the rim ding. I was mostlyreferring mostly to the missing letters in states and pluribus. I think there is also a Cud mark behind the head at the bottom of the Y, there is a normal gouge mark from circulation, but right above that there is a raised spot. Once again thank you all.

I can't tell from the pics if that mark is raised or not. It might be a die chip or just displaced metal from a hit.

The coin looks like it was dropped on one side of the edge. Note the reeds are bent inwards. PSD
