I know that 1938 Canadian Nickels are considered rare and valuable. Are other coins from that year also something to watch out for? In particular 1938 pennies?

Generally speaking 1938 issue coins are key dates in the George VI series. The .05, .10, .25, .50 and $1 all carry premium prices over common dates. I would say the cent is the lone exception. 1938 cents are readily available in every grade, and don't carry a significant premium over other cents in the same condition. Add in the fact that there were quality control issues with WWII cents from 1941-1946, and it's not even among the top 10 George VI cents by price.

Here's a nicer example..and notice how the eye brow was rarely filled in at this very low point. Nickel was just too tough a material to fill deeply into the die.

Did you submit that one raw? If not, what was the grade in the older (embossed?) ICCS flip?
