These are my 9th and 10th early commems. Not fast and furious on this collection, just trying to get decent examples.

Isn't it amazing that you can get beautiful, unique design silver hAlf dollars, many of historical significance, for such nominal prices? Especially considering their low mintage for so many of them.

You are building the set the right way, buying examples you love.

I would mention that if you decide to go with the tougher of the 50 type, such as the Hawaii, Hudson, Spanish Trail, Lafayette dollar, etc., that you will consider NGC or PCGS examples to insure against both counterfeits and cleaned examples.

It's a beautiful set and a true challenge. Enjoy every bit of the whole process.

Congrats on your latest acquisitions and the ongoing progress of your collection. They are nice examples.

I echo moxking's comments - a very nice collection of classic US commemorative coins can be assembled at very attractive prices -- at least currently!

You might consider giving the Cleveland an acetone bath to remove the surface dirt/grease. The acetone should loosen the surface material and allow it to be removed gently with a cotton swab (do not wipe, just dab).

Congrats! I find them exciting. Not all of them grab me and some I cannot afford so I am collecting the ones that I really like. I know I'll never have a complete set. Stay picky! Be careful of fakes.
I think they will become quite popular again. There's always a few I'd like to add to my collection yet.

Gave Mr.Cleaveland a dip in some acetone, he looks a little cleaner. My pic can't do it justice.

Very nice additions to your growing set. I judge both to be authentic examples.

Nice pair! I love these raw, and I also like them slabbed. Always nice to 'feel' the history with a raw coin, but slabs are always a plus for CSC's. That's why I'm building a dual set.
