I'm a pastor at a Lutheran church. Yesterday we held a special "Noisy Offering" where we invited families to bring in their change and dump it in a big metal tub. The money is going to support a member of our church who is a medical missionary in Nicaragua. After the first service I was emptying the change out of the tub when I caught a glimpse of a non-clad coin. I pulled it out and found a gorgeous 1964 Kennedy half dollar. Now . . . I want everyone to know, that being the good pastor I am, that I showed the coin to the men who count the offering and then put $7.00 in cash in the "Noisy Offering" (paper bills, but it's still money) to pay for the silver value of the coin. Wait how did I end up in the offering plate? Nice pickup, and a very honest thing to do. You could have justified taking it at face. After all, of gone unnoticed, it would have ended up going to the bank and would have been $.50 value to the cause.

It wasn't actually in the offering plate, but the bucket with all the other change. I guess I didn't make that clear.

Quote: Wait how did I end up in the offering plate? Well the choice was whether to keep you around or to make you someone else's problem, and you see what was decided. The question I have is did you check the rest of it?

Seriously now, did you put the 7 bucks in straightaway, or did think about it for awhile?

A half dollar to give you fond memories is worth the price. Maybe you will encourage the bucket to be used every week

I did put in the money right away and yes, I did give the rest of the change a quick check after our second service, but didn't see anything of note. If all the change hasn't been taken to the bank when I get in tomorrow (I take Mondays as my day off), then I'll give it a closer check.
