Received this coin today in the mail. Hard to capture images, but it a dark coin. I like the sharpness of the details. Based on these in hand pictures, what do you grade it, and would you keep it for your type set? Thanks for all of the kind help

VF-35, but if this dark, I'm not a fan.

Looks like a solid 40. I don't mind dark on those big boys. I have my own 47 in 45, and mine isn't as dark, but I like yours.

Nice reverse, but to me, the obverse is clearly worn and Liberty is too weak for a 40. Can't see it, but splitting hairs.

Dark is the look you want to shoot for in xf and below with this series. You will be hard pressed to find anything original with lighter toning that hasn't been tinkered with. xf-40 here. I have a 70 in au-50 that has dark toning. But it also has cobalt blue and russet red undertones. I imagine your coin has some of that when viewed in hand.

I like the look of this Dollar and would give her a XF45...lots of meat left on the bone!

Yes! I would keep her as a Type I Seated dollar. I am presently trying to talk myself out of a "blued-steel" AU55.

Thank you all. With these coins it is nice to have some opinions from other collectors especially when they cost as much as they do. Very much appreciated

Mike - I am impressed. The shield has the red toning when rotated right by the shield and liberty. You sure know this type!

Certainly a 35 and perhaps a 40 with better pictures. I'd keep it because I like the dark also.

Looks solid for XF40 but wouldn't be surprised to see PCGS XF45 in the slab. Very decent circulated type piece.
