to the discovery farm!

, me stumped. Usually fair at guessing how these would have been "fabricated", either mint error or by Little Johnnie in the Garage.

Ah, there it is. At the 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock position on reverse is the flattened edge. Those " Reeding Marks" are the pattern of a vise's grip area. Was put into a vise and squeezed. The mark on reverse is a deep scratch( PMD) the edges around are raised up.

OR

It was held flat in a vise and something with a design was hammered into it, would explain flattened rims.

. (See below)

Thanks. The outside edge is what caught my eye. It's already in my pocket.

Could it be a partial collar error?

Nickels don't have reeds on them. So it couldn't be a partial collar.

I'm not convinced that the marks on the back above the dome were made by vice grips. There are no matching marks on the front.

The marks on the reverse field could be reeds from another coin.
Rest in Peace

w/Coop, Or if in a vise, one side was against wood, some vises have wooden inserts for woodworking use. This would explain why just one edge area is flattened.
