On the obverse, there's no Doubled Die. Just heavy Die Deterioration Doubling and die wear. On the reverse, just Die Deterioration. Your coin was struck with a very well worn die.

I agree with what E&V said. This has been nicknamed the 'Poor Man's Doubled Die'.

Yeah, cause they are so common even a "poor man" can afford one!!

But in reality it is NOT a doubled Die so don't get the 2 terms confused.

Concur with what has been said above.

The true 1955 doubled die is unmistakable ... here is my PCGS AU55 example:

Hope that helps?

One of the more famous of the DDD's Die Deterioration Doubling erroneously called "Poorman's Doubled Die" for it is not a hub doubled die.

Note the stretching of the motto and curling up the rim due to die metal flowing outwards. Your example is probably right near this dies end of life limit and catastropic failure!

The Wheat cent dies were over used often. Mostly noted on the 50's cents, but other years as well. They used them till the die, died! LOL The cents show the end result. Even in BU you can see the over use visible.

In a tubed roll of 1955 BU cents, I found 19 of them that look like the example above. I check and they were not from the same die pairs. So it is a common event that many fall for on these. So if you had a collection of these and you paid a premium for all of them, when you sold them, you would be the poor man.
