I have the opportunity to purchase, but unfortunately it's more than I can afford.

99.8% chance of finding nothing good . Your only hope is to purchase it below melt .

Melt or slightly less, if I even had that kind of money.

(Which I don't, by the way.)

Were I interested, no more than melt, perhaps less to take into consideration the high risk that you will be getting a lot of really worn pieces. I believe that a rule of thumb is that average VF silver dimes have lost about 2% of their original weight. Badly worn pieces may have a loss of 10% or more.
Rest in Peace

I would want to dig through a couple hand fulls.

If it's all worn 40's, 15% below melt.

30's and 40's low grade, 10% below melt.

A few pre-30's and/or higher grade, EF+, melt.

This can only be contemplated as a bulk metal purchase. Current melt is about $1.20, and if I were interested in such a purchase I would not reach five figures on the price. 20% back of melt.

I would offer 10X face value, but I would not pay over 11X face.

If all the coins are full weight.
Hard to calculate how much metal has been worn off 10,000 coins. I'd also wonder how they came up with an exact count of '10,000'.

Good point. Which is a good reason to take ace_ftw's advice and weigh the bag.
