1966 Dime - Missing Clad? How To Tell...?

flanders8008 Valued Member Canada 215 Posts	Posted 10/12/2017 4:44 pm I have two 1966 dimes and one is significantly darker than the other. Is there any way to tell for sure if it's missing clad? The photos aren't the greatest but they're both in very nice condition so I don't think it's worn/dirty to this degree... Report this Post to the Staff

Also usually just one sided loss, will cause a "soft strike" appearence, have softer incomplete detail since plancet may have been thinner when stamped,depend when clad cam off, pre or post strike. spru Bedrock of the Community United States 12477 Posts	Posted 10/13/2017 12:34 am Yours looks like it has the same darker color on both sides so, chances are it's environmental damage. As mentioned, if it were missing a clad layer, or both outer layers, the weight would be under spec. Like coop said, carry it in your pocket for a while and see if the silvery color comes back on the raised devices.
