Excellent! Where were the groundskeepers when this nest was developing?

Haha, spruett001! I thought the pest control was going to terminate the nest. I guess they're behind their schedule and couldn't make it on time.

Thank you Spence! You don't see Die Chips this big that often. Once in awhile, you will see this happen. The 2006, 2007, and 2008 Lincoln cents are known for this to happen in the 1st pillars.

Crazyb0, no signs of a Die Clash. I looked and there's none. If there was, it would be a amazing combo error coin. :)

Thank you for posting that link Halo1st. It does look very similar to John1's example. I wonder how big this Die Chip got before they changed out the die. This Die Chip eventually turned into a Interior Die Break.

I also recently found a beehive on a 1996. Maybe this reoccurring infestation is why the switch was made to the shield reverse. Pesky insects.

Walkallnite, that's a very nice example you have there. Very similar to my example. Not really sure why the U.S. Mint switched. Maybe it was time for a new design since they had the Memorial reverse to 1959 to 2008. Check out Newbie's post. Newbie has a thread where you can post your Die Chips.

Quote: Not really sure why the U.S. Mint switched. The design change, including the 2009 designs commemorating the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth, were by Congressional Act. I posted somewhere around here about the "Shield" reverse design being chosen. It is based on the Union Shield (which pre-dates the Civil War) and represents Lincoln's fight to retain, and success in retaining the Union during the war. I found the pic I posted:

Spruett001, I see now. That's why they did it. That's pretty cool that's it based on the civil war. Thank you for sharing that newand vaulable information. Now I know why they did it.

Quote: That's pretty cool that's it based on the civil war. Well, not really. As I said, the Union Shield pre-dates the Civil War by a wide margin. However, it now represents Lincoln's struggle to maintain the Union. So, kind of mish-mash depending on who you're talking to.

The shield minus the stars and the word Union has been on US coins long before the Civil War.

Spruett001, oh okay. It was before it happened. Fuzzy317, that's pretty cool that it was used way long before the Civil War. Those old coins must be worth a good amount of money now.
