If anyone wants grading practice on Seated Liberty coins, here is my 1860-S coin, slabbed by PCGS. This was the final year of the Variety 2 Seated dime, with the "stars on obverse" design. Only San Francisco made this type in 1860; Philadelphia and New Orleans had already switched to the legend obverse design. Any estimates on the grade?

I will take a stab and say EF40.Looks to be wear on high points and on Miss Liberty's hair and arm and on the bow and lower leafs on the reverse.

I am not very familiar with this series..but I'll take a crack at it. It looks like most all details are there, obverse and reverse, but they are a little flat. This is a tough one...If I go with strike weakness- I'll give the coin an MS-63...If I go with a little circulation rub- AU-55. Hmmmm...I'll go with rub...AU-55 it is. Now, If I could get the coin in-hand.....

Oh yeah, the grade! I think PCGS was strict but fair; a solid choice VF. I'll take it!

I'd say EF-45, maybe AU 50. Not more than 50 though. VF 30 is quite undergraded.

to me it looks like it would lie somewhere in between EF40 and AU50

If the spread from 30 to 45-50 is significant, I suggest sending it in for reslabbing. Great upgrade candidate!
