Hello everyone. I am new here and I do not know how this works very well. I work as a cashier at a gas station and collect coins that I get to receive. I have several international currencies (nothing important) and many of silver (nothing important either). I found this one that I find very strange, it is bent, badly cut, badly printed and it feels strange, it can be false or is it an error when manufacturing it? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Appears to have been mounted at some time. Probably a necklace or something along those lines.

@HandH, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @bump111 that your coin looks like it was mounted at one time and then the pendant, bar top, or whatever was broken apart, leaving behind those chunks of solder or braze. Certainly you can keep it because it looks interesting, but the value is only 25 cents.

to the CCF. Interesting job to be able to find coin in the cash drawer .... You coin is very likely a genuine Bicentennial quarter dollar that has been badly damaged ... the damage absolutely occurred outside the Mint ... hence known as Post Mint Damage ( PMD). There are a myriad of methods by which this PMD could have occurred ... and it would be pure speculation on my behalf to name any specific way. Value is 25 cents. David

Based on the shininess and mushiness of features, it mighta been plated before it was mounted.

It looks like a D mint mark, but if that's the case, the edge should show some copper. So it got plated or painted -- or maybe the mint mark is a disfigured S. Take a close look. It might be a silver proof but more likely it got painted.

I agree that other than having been mounted and having solder remaining, it was also plated. It appears it was probably plated after the soldering. It also looks like it has a D mintmark. If it has an S mintmark, there is a chance that it could be 40% silver but, I doubt that's the case.

If it is a Denver mint it can't be a proof coin. The coin was plated and now worth what if says on the reverse, if someone would take it. Pretty much done for as a collectable.
