Found this nickel the other day in my first box of nickels, and was surprised at the quality. Any thoughts on a grade?

Great find! It looks to be AU55 or AU58 to me with a weak strike on the reverse. However, I am not the best grader and pictures are almost always different than what is in hand.

One of the five keys and in great shape! I would give it AU-55 and the weak strike TNG mentioned.

I went through at least 50 boxes before finding one in the wild, so nice find indeed!! Looks to be AU.

How can you tell the Reverse has a weak strike? Sorry, I'm new to coin grading. Thanks for the help!

In part because of the lack of detail on the steps of Monticello. Concur AU-55. to the CCF!

Quote: How can you tell the Reverse has a weak strike? Yes, the steps of Monticello have something to do with it. I looked more at the weakness of the columns on the reverse. They are all very weakly struck whereas a strong strike would show weakness only on the third (left to right) column. I hope that makes sense.
