Hi, brand new here... My friend got this with other change and we're wondering if it's an error or what?

@Gooody, first welcome to CCF. Second, your pic is pretty fuzzy--not sure that I can see enough of the detail to tell exactly what is on Roosevelt's forehead. Can you please post a better pic? While you are at it, please post a similar pic of the rev. Sometimes there are subtle clues which help to discern what happened on the other side of the coin.

On closer inspection maybe there is a corresponding splotch on the left above the e plu? It's hard to tell. Sorry if these photos still aren't great. The lump on his head looks to be raised equally to the rest of his head

Ok hmm, I'm still a little puzzled. A straight on shot of the obv would be ideal, but this doesn't look like extra metal or material added to the surface of the coin. Perhaps a little overheating, such as from a torch--just enough to get a little bubbling and melting, but not so much as to turn the dime into a puddle.
I'll be interested to read what others think about this one.

My best guess is heat, as well. Except, I think the heat came from electricity. That dime conducted more current than it could handle and it melted a little around the contact points.

I'm thinking a heat source expanded trapped gas between the clad layers after strike as well. That might explain the residual dark matter on the surface as well. Thanks, Doug.
