1801 Bust Dollar PCGS

Please give me your thoughts on this 1801 Bust Dollar in a PCGS holder. I have it on approval and am deciding to move forward with it or not. Note there are some scuff marks on the holder. The fingerprint in the hair of Liberty is hardly noticeable...just looks like a few dots. It really stands out on the pic.

F15, very good shot at VF20. Variety is BB-212 / B-2 (R2 rarity) for your information. T in UNITED is normal; long arrows (past center of N); first 1 in date does not touch curl; right side stars higher than left side relative to LIBERTY. Note also the two parallel diagonal die gouges from the head through the hair bun, and a die crack from the right wing tip to the rim. Decent strike (for the series) and looks like an earlier strike since the flowlining and trails have not yet noticeably developed and the dentition is mostly intact.

Very attractive coin. I wouldn't mind owning it although it's most certainly out of my league. The fingerprint could have been put there any time from 1801 to whenever it was slabbed, but based on its appearance, I'd wager it's more likely to be quite old. It does not detract from the coin in any meaningful way and does not affect the grading or eye appeal IMO.

This would be a great type coin for the Large Eagle series; the later dates are scarcer than the earlier dates, taken as a whole, not by variety.

I'm in the F-15 ball park.

Nice contrasting partial bulls-eye toning is always nice. No major distractions. Nice fields without too much for hits. Much better than average early strike both obverse and reverse.

1801 is a great date and is a bit tougher than "common" dates like 1799.

I really like this coin.

I would have to say v-20. Just because e pluribus unum is nearly readable and the eagle has a visible eye.

Congrats to those who graded this F-15 as PCGS agrees with you! Coinfrog provided two grades so is therefore disqualified...

I thought it was a solid coin for the grade with claims to VF-20. I'm really happy with it.
