I think this is in the correct spot on the forums. Soooo, being a super newb at this, I would like to know what your goals are for 2018!! I have been doing a ton of reading and research on coinage and bills, I love hunting for them. I am also a rockhound since day 1, and it has led me here to coins and metal detecting as well as learning on how to stack. I am not one to buy stuff, if I feel I can do it myself (I'm a big DIY'er, so it's the same for me with coins.) So, my goals for 2018: 1. Learn as much as I can on errors and varieties and get better at spotting them vs. machine errors (which I seem to find, no problem!) 2. Find a War Nickel, an indian head, and a benjamin. 3. Stack some silver this year (bullion.) I have no amount set yet as I have to sit down and do the budget. 4. Find a monster agate! >1# Not a coin, but can bring in some ching to then find more coin! Is there anything in particular you are looking to find or get this year?!

1. Attempt to finalize my FSB Mercury dime #1 Album. 2. Start Mercury dime Albums #13 and #14. 3. Stop collecting coins and spend the money on something else. 4. Number 3 above just never happens.

Yes very good question! Here is a link to the thread in the ancient's section of CCF where we tackled this exact question specifically for our particular area of numismatics: http://goccf.com/t/303027

just_carl: #3 is always tough I have found! I just started and since the snow is knee deep or above, I am finding myself constantly asking for halves and dollar coins or buying rolls of change instead. LOL! Bud250r: I am no where near that kind of collecting!! Good luck though!! Spence: Thanks for the link, that was meant for ancient coins though. But I would love to find an Emperor Trajan coin! My youngest is named after him! That's something I would have to buy and I wouldn't have the foggiest of ideas on where to start! shotgun: I'll race ya!!

@FG, yep sorry that I wasn't more clear. I added this link to show you how some others have answered this question in case you don't hang out over there very often. I don't expect that many Roman coins are found CRHing so yes, picking up a Trajan would be a purchase.

1934-S WLH in 64 to finish my medium date set 34-47. 1935-D Peace in 65 to finish my 35 date set. 2 1/2 Indian in 64 for my type set. MS-66 Peace for my type set. No Motto St. Gauden in 66, so 1908 I'm sure, for type. At least a few other type coins that I might have but that need upgrading.

@ just carl I seem to have the same problem as your #3 I need to sell some lower grade hole fillers and upgrade. Mostly. I haven't ever sold so it will be a new experience for sure.
