Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well in the new year.
I've come across an odd 1974 Kennedy half and can't seem to figure out whats going on with it. I've attached a pics, and my best guess is that its missing a layer or was struck on a silver planchette. It's 11.17g & the same size as any other one, but not normal. If you get a chance I'd love some opinions on it. Thanks, Bill

To me it looks like the coin was poor plated. On the inside of reeds you might see some copper showing through on them:

I used a blade to cut through the plating an a quarter to show the copper under the plating. Quarters are often the target for gold and platinum plating, sold on HSN. The plating voids any premium for these coins.

I'm with Coop on this one and agree it was plated.

Looks like it was poorly cleaned prior to the plating, too.

Bill...I share the opinion that it has been plated.

We see something very often, other times it can be something new and doing a little mental detective work, we figure out what it might be.
