Quote: Correct... BUT for those who DO buy from the Mint having free shipping is a good thing and if YOU do not buy direct then it doesn't apply to you.
If I collected yearly $20.95 Unc Coin Sets (I don't) I would not waste my time searching around to save a buck. I would appreciate more that I saved $4.95 Agreed. Also, some people do not want to wait for something to hit the secondary market. For some it is not about getting it cheap, it is about getting it when they want it.

The quality control at the mint is awful, I would never order a mint set from them again after the last time I tried. I would much rather see the one I'm getting first

Even if I did get something bad from the mint, I can return/exchange it. Perhaps my opinion will change if I ever had to deal with that process.

To me, one of the issues with enrolling for Mint products was the schedule of products. I do collect all of the modern coins and the easiest way to get them (except for those darn unc S mint ATB Quarters ) is to get the annual mint set, clad proof set, and silver proof set. Of course, these 3 sets are not released at the same time, so if you got them via enrollment you'd end up paying for 3 shipping costs. So, I'd either get them on the secondary market (usually cheaper like many have said) or wait until all three were released and order all 3 at once to save on the shipping costs. Now with free shipping for enrolled purchases, I went ahead and re-activated my inactive enrollments for these products. It might cost a little more, but then I don't have to search for them on ebay or travel to a coin show to get them. A decent trade as far as I'm concerned.

I ended up doing more than 8 returns on two different products and I am convinced that I was getting other peoples returns on one of them. After that I said never again from them unless it's something I know will sell out really fast

It could be that I am buying on day one, no chance of getting someone's return, and getting lucky on the Quality Assurance draw.

Quote: The quality control at the mint is awful, I would never order a mint set from them again after the last time I tried. I would much rather see the one I'm getting first I am with baseball on this one for sure. I have returned quite a few items, and I was not being picky. One of my 2017 silver proof sets has foreign particles with accompanying spots around them on the surface. The reason I kept that set is the Sac has some funky MD. http://goccf.com/t/290579appears to be doubled. I also had to return some REV proof ASE sets in 2012 for contaminants making discolorations. I got the replacement sets and noticed problems. I called the mint and asked if these had been returned sets. After the rep assured me this never happens, I asked if they would please explain to me why two of the five sets were missing the certificate inside, the coins were not oriented correctly in the boxes (one was loose in another set), and the display-box-wrapping cloth inside had obviously been taken out and sloppily replaced. The reply? "Oh. Sorry." I assured them I would be putting the next sets under a microscope to check them. The 2013 Enhanced sets came with hairs and what looked like dandruff inside the capsules. One had an obvious rim ding. I returned all but the best set. So let's hope this new mint policy of free shipping for subscriptions is a step of them trying to improve customer relations? Let's hope.

I too agree their quality control lately is declining, However, I enjoy getting My collectibles from the mint also for the simple reason of obtaining the crispest, earliest, strikes I can locate. The secondary market has been less then suffice in that dept also. To each His/Her own........

Pleased to read that my somewhat contrarian reply has spurred a good discussion ... that is the purpose of the CCF after all. Friends ... absolutely purchase the current US Mint offerings if you choose to .. via subscription or other means. We each collect what we want and can afford. The point I was trying to make is that the US Mint overprices their offerings recognizing the 'need to own it now' collector ... Nearly everything the US Mint produces today can be acquired at lower cost on the secondary market ... if one is willing to wait say 6 months to a year. That fact of the market should not and is not intended to distract from the collector pleasure of acquiring what you want when you want it. Just saying ... for modern US Mint issues you will pay less if you are willing to wait and find the coins at a show or elsewhere ... with a few exceptions.

Quote: I'm convinced they reship returns for at least sold out items I'm with ya on that one. But, with that said, there are a few reasons for a return ..merchandise arrived too late ..did not receive correct item ..changed my mind ..unacceptable packaging quality ..product arrived damaged ..unacceptable coin quality The first 4 can be resold as they do not affect the coin (change damaged packaging). The 2nd two shouldn't be resold but who knows.....

The 2012 sets I mentioned were still being offered for sale at the time, so I have to wonder if they sent me the returned sets first, and when I asked for different ones just made sure I got some fresh ones?
