Received this notice via email today. At the top of the notice it says Quote: All Enrollments now Receive Free Budget Shipping. with no explanation or clarification. Anyone else receive this message? What's your interpretation? It looks to me like the Mint is changing their shipping policy to free shipping for enrolled products.

I received it about an hour ago, and that's what I understand too.

Question?
If you are enrolled in a subscription currently, should you cancel that enrollment and re-enroll? Would that give you the free shipping?
Just a thought.

I don't know, as the flyer really doesn't have any details. Just the one line. The first "enrollment" coin (proof ASE) is released this week (4 Jan). Maybe someone who is enrolled to automatically received that coin (I'm not) will enlighten everyone as to whether or not they received free shipping.

I got an email the 21st saying my ASE enrollment was almost ready to go. Then I got this same email. I try to check it by logging in and their computer refuses to allow me to. when I enter my email for help (copy pasted from their email to me), I get a message saying they have no record of my email!

At the risk of everyone hating me ... and throwing the internet equivalent of rotten tomatoes my way ... Why do you even care to be first informed of these USA Mint issues? These modern USA mint products have nearly always been less expensive on the secondary market ... and there is no need for 'subscriptions' or email reminders if purchased that way. There are indeed a few notable exceptions ... but they are few and far between. From my memory: 1997 Jackie Robinson gold $5 uncirculated version. 2012-S Silver Proof set Anyone have another modern USA commemorative to exceed issue price that we wish to discuss? My point is 'purchase now' via the US Mint versus 'purchase later' on the secondary market ... I'm of the belief that 'purchase now' will always be a financial loser ... Fully concur that price is likely not why you are interested in these coins ... simply suggesting in the spirit of CCF knowledge sharing that you consider my thoughts. Ducking now from any impending bide vibe or rotten tomatoes.

Not to argue the point since I, like most others, like the commems for their artistic value more than their financial potential. But there have been several that have increased in value. I didn't do any research, but I know the Peace Officers Memorial, Buffalo dollar and nearly all the gold commems issued in the 90s are currently selling for more than issue.

Quote: Why do you even care to be first informed of these USA Mint issues? Nickelsearcher, Your post seems to be directed at modern commemoratives, but modern commemoratives are not included in the Mint's enrollment program. What are included are: Proof and Mint sets, ASE, ATB Quarters, Kennedy halves and Sacagawea dollars. The fact that the Mint has an enrollment program for these issues means that there are a significant number of collectors who prefer to get these coins directly from the Mint. A change to free shipping will save these folks a few bucks, perhaps manytimes throughout the year.

For many years I have had a sub for a few issues, silver PF sets, W ASE's. PF ASE's, ATB pucks, and until recently the Annual Dollar set. I do it because I would most likely forget to add them to another order and MIGHT miss out on something decent (like the 2016 Annual Dollar Set) As was mentioned, Commems are not a subscription product. It is also obviously uninformed to present the 2012 S ASE silver set as the only non-commem Mint product to increase in price. For the most part I do not purchase commems but I have strayed a few times

Just went the mint's site, and asked customer service in the live chat feature. My question: "The recent email about free shipping for subscriptions, does this only apply to new subscriptions, or does it also apply to existing subscriptions?" and Kadetra replied "Free shipping for enrollments apply for existing enrollments as well."

@nickelsearcher I have a silver proof set and silver proof ASE subscription. I started the subscription around 2009 and decided to cut it off at ... guess what year... 2012. I ended up paying almost as much for the silver half of that year (the only one I really wanted) as IO would have for the entire set. So I re-upped. The silver, over my lifetime, will not lose its value. Same for the ASE proof - its silver. I would not buy clad through subscription, and everything else the mint makes, to me, is of no interest.

It's almost always obvious what will be popular and go up in price before it even happens. The ATB, Kennedy, Sacs, everything else ect are basically grade dependent for premiums. Most of their issues once you let a couple months pass and something else is the new hot thing sell under issue price. Go look at the various 2017 issues and see how many you can find cheaper than the mint sold them for, same with 2016 2015

BUT for those who DO buy from the Mint having free shipping is a good thing and if YOU do not buy direct then it doesn't apply to you. If I collected yearly $20.95 Unc Coin Sets (I don't) I would not waste my time searching around to save a buck. I would appreciate more that I saved $4.95
