I'm relatively new to numismatics. Been collecting on and off for several years. Much to learn undoubtedly. My ultimate goal is to have the most complete coin collection in the world, irrespective of coin quality (for the more expensive coins anyway).
I look forward to contributing in the future when I have knowledge that others lack.

Complete, as in every type, every year?
You will never run out of material to find. That's about 100,000 coins from the 20th century alone.
On the other hand, you could buy in bulk and get thousands of new ones.

Thanks everyone! :)
@oriole yes, every type/year combination. I've been told roughly 5 million items to collect and obviously growing slightly larger every year.

surroundex : to the CCF ! I am one of these, too. A collector of World coins, that is. How about OFEC ? One From Every Country ? - lots of collectors do this. and / or OFEC one from every Century* ? - over the last 26 centuries OFEC one from every Culture* ? - you may end up learning a lot about how various cultures have interacted with each other, a stepping stone into learning about and what is behind World history. *I do these as well - the last two will give meaning to the first one.

@surroundx, 5,000,000? I would not have thought it that high but then again I have never tried to figure it out.
I know that the 20th century alone has about 12,000 types (excluding dates and mint marks).
For a task that size, you really need to get the largest, best bulk lots that you can find. That should get the cost down to under 10 cents per coin.
Good luck to you, and I hope that you have lots of storage space. 5,000,000 coins is more than 10,000 kilograms.
