These were Proof Dimes, not business strike dimes.

They were struck as business strike dimes, and used to be called business strikes, now all the TPG's call them proofs. Eventually they will probably start calling them specimen strikes.

Come on not one of you are going to tell me you dont see the S but I do know there is a slight possibility it is. When I put a tracing paper over it and shade it with pencil you can still see it better.

Sorry, but I see no S in the picture. Can you post a picture of the tracing that you made if it shows up better?

I see some post mint damage in the area where the mint mark would be that could be construed that is shaped like an "S". However, it is larger than what the mint mark would have been on a genuine coin.

It sounds like you are determined that your coin is an 1894-S dime worth many thousands of dollars. No amount of evidence, reasoning or rational discussion will change your mind.

Based on that, I suggest you spend the money and send your coin in for TPG (third party grading) and let them decide. I'm sure any one of the big 3 services....PCGS, NGC or ANACS..... will be glad to take your money and tell you the EXACT thing we've been telling you FOR FREE since this this thread was opened. Anyway, if in fact the coin is the real deal it will need to be TPG to be marketable and receive top dollar.

Like I told the last person here claiming to have a 94-S (just a few weeks ago): If it comes back in a genuine 1894-S holder I would be more than happy to eat my share of well cooked crow pie! He still hasn't posted the results!

Good luck!

Send it to ANACS for a quick identification.

Maybe some joker removed the "S" because they needed a 1894-P in their collection?

I know I'm late to party on this one. 24 or so known to have been struck 9 for sure known, so a very real possibility that there could be more out there undiscovered.

All were proofs the lowest graded one known is a AG03 (NGC) Private Sale, the other is the "Lawrence-9 or the Ice Cream Specimen" due to it being a G06 (PCGS). Even those two examples the S shows very clearly, as if the well struck Proof coin was heavily circulated.

The rankings by Greg Reynolds; https://coinweek.com/expert-columns...t-histories/

The nice examples are super nice! A friend of mine has had at least three of them at various times over the years. They were all a sight to behold.
