*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

I would like to know if anyone knows why this coin looks like this. Any ideas? Thanks.

They are called "roller lines". They are supposed to be caused by dirty rollers when the cent stock was rolled to the proper thickness. They can't be removed without removing the metal they are embedded in.

I think it looks pretty cool!

Edit: it looks like a copper '82 (Large Date) and my answer is assuming that. Have you tried a barcode scanner on it?

That's one of the "better" roller marked examples that I've seen. I like it.

You should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

Why Topic Titles are Important

The title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan Dollar....

  • Horrendous: Help!

  • Bad: Need help with coin

  • Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar

  • Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar

  • Awesome: Need help with VAM on 1896 Morgan Dollar

This enables the members with expertise pertaining to your question to easily find and answer your question. The title of the topic also becomes the title of the topic's web page, which enables us to attract more collectors to the site. The more members we have, the more we learn.

I agree with roller lines. What does the reverse look like? I would put it in a 2x2 for sure.
