Well, those certainly didn't take a lot of imagination. Lol. There has to be worse.

That is a shame because many pre-war Romanian silvers had a very attractive design.

Last time this question came up, I nominated this design. Some people really like it, but I suggest it looks like a high school shop project.

Those coins are definitely not gong to win any beauty contests.
I vote the modern US nickel OBV - its horrible.
I also really dislike the current Canadian OBV representation of Queen Elizabeth II. It is just way to common looking for my liking - not regal at all.

The 2016 type of Indonesian 1000 Rupiah coin is ugly too. Shallow relief on a shiny nickel plating? Barely visible and ghost-like Quote: I vote the modern US nickel OBV - its horrible. I guess the bust on the 1000 Rupiah coin looks worse? Not to mention that the reverse looks like play money For comparison, here's the older (2010) version:

The Indonesian 1 Sen coin from the 50's looks ugly and bland. The rice stalk on the Obverse looks decent, but the reverse is just... Bland. Just like random swirls of strings and beads, lol. This type is an "update" to the 1 Sen issued before independence (which looks much better IMHO): Apparently, the mint (even after independence, the aluminum Sen is still minted in the Netherlands - there's still the privy mark) just changed the planchet to a smaller and less valuable aluminum, changed the legend, and omitted the reverse decoration and the denomination in Javanese script. It makes me wonder why the Javanese text was omitted though, clearly there's enough space to write it . Perhaps it was considered discriminative since only Javanese people would be able to read it, yet using the Arabic text which is only readable by Arabic scholars and (most) moslems seems to be not considered discriminative .

I actually find the overwhelmingly vast majority of coin designs introduced after about 1980 to be bland and uninspiring. Of the world coins I haven't already sold off, I'd say maybe 90% of them are from 1975 or earlier. Too much emphasis on optimization for rapid production; not enough art!

Even for my beloved '82s, finding motivation to spend anything for 1982s except for the occasional error is tough and pretty rare.

The swedish coins and the indonesian 1000 rupiah are simple indeed. But that 1 Sen is not bad.
