Another type coin I am trying to upgrade, will be posting examples I am coming across for consideration to learn how to grade the type accurately. Seated dollars are done so no more of those to be posted by me! What do you think this graded ?    Edited by Steelers72 02/11/2018 6:17 pm

MS63, great strike, good color, ok luster, detracting obverse scratches. I don't see any wear on the usual places.

MS 63. Color is nice but causes photo to blur a bit on details of the elements.

unc details scratched. neck scratch is pretty distracting. TPG likely straight graded. if choosing a singular example for your type set, don't know why you would choose one with a large scratch across the neck. plenty of better examples out there.

Nice strike , Eagles head and neck feathers are strong . Denticles on both sides sharp . I see a couple of scratches on neck ( obverse ). I'm going with 63+ virtually a 64 .

I have to agree with numismatic student. I was on the fence between a straight grade at MS-63 and MS details, but I'm going to go with the latter because that scratch is rather significant. However, I would say PCGS gave it a straight grade. Definitely look for a problem-free example, they are out there.

In my opinion, the scratch is not significant enough to warrant a Details grade.

No idea on the grade, but I really appreciate seeing a MS Barber half. Any chance that neck scratch is on the holder?
