I am interested in how some of you would grade this. Edited by Forum Mom to move from Classic US Coin Forum to Coin Grading Practice Forum

dcv, other than posting this in the grading forum, I'd guess maybe MS 62. Very nice coin!

Between 63-65, but seems like a weak strike.

I would say MS-62/63.A number of contanct marks on Miss Libertys leg and in front of the eagle on the reverse.Looks close to full head but not quit. Strike looks fairly strong to me,with full lines on the center shield.Nice coin.

I tend to agree with TLS5933 with another two notes on the coin rather distracting angled W in front of the beak on the reverse and difficult to tell what the discoloration is primarily near the T in Liberty on the obverse. Could this coin been cleaned? If not cleaned M62

Probably MS63. Strike is a little weak.

Thanks for all of your grades. I am really happy with your assessments. I am just starting my quest to learn grading and so far have mostly concentrated on circulated grades. I was going to be happy if anyone said 60. Thank you.

I can't say for sure whether the coin has ever been cleaned. I can only speak for the last 40 years or so, during which time I know it was not.
Also, sorry for posting this in the wrong group. I wasn't thinking.

I think it's a nice unc coin with good luster and no serious marks. It looks solid for MS-63 and MS-64 is not out of the question IMO.
It can't make full head because the ear hole is not visible and the line separating Miss Liberty's hair from her face is not complete. It's close, but not close enough! Still, a nice one.

I would give it MS62-63, no full head (needs earhole). It looks like it has great er from the photo but a weak strike and possibly a scratch at 3 o'clock on the reverse. Overall, a very nice coin.

Thanks everyone. I am looking to choose 8 of my coins for my first third party grading experience. This one was a candidate and may be among them. Thank you all for your grades.

Nice slq, dcv. Has the look of about an ms-63 coin with a weak strike (the shield rivets are not complete), but that scratch on the reverse could result in a body bag from pcgs or ngc. Not sure without the coin in hand.

hadleydog...thanks. Yeah, I just looked at the coin again and the scratch is at least as bad as it looks in the picture. I didn't know they would body-bag it for that. Glad you told me. What about ANACS...are they (or anyone else) more likely to grade it? On a more positive note, this is... POST #50!
