Hey I'm JP and I've been collecting for about 6 months now. Here's my issue I just cannot decide what to collect so I'm collecting all of them. Agggg soooii many and such a thrill to find a good find after looking at what seems like millions. I've got some goodies to post as soon as get good at photographing them. Great site. It's one of my go to sites when I'm hunting

is there a coin type that interests you? circulated coins, commemoratives, bullion, the world in general or a specific country

I think in time that you'll naturally gravitate to a certain area or type you like. You may be getting everything you can get your hands on meow, but I think you'll see in the future that you'll be buying one or just a few certain flavors.

I think assembling a type set is a good way to collect if you just want to have a bit of everything. For instance, you could try to collect one example of every United States Mint circulation strike coin from 1793 to the present. Obviously some of the holes will be much more difficult to fill than others, but since you wouldn't be concerned about key dates, most of the items needed won't set you back too much.

I'm kind of on my coin collecting 'honeymoon' too. It's all exciting. Haven't decided which direction to go. Decided to do a type set like someone here mentioned. That's fun and gives you a little variety of different flavors. World coins are fun too. Sooo much out there. Sooo much to learn. Birth year? Maybe. You'll wind up gravitating to something eventually. or not. Oh, by the way. Welcome to the Forum.

JP~! I understand. I collected (more like hoarded) so many different coins over the years. I have just recently settled down to a few series and am getting rid of a LOT of stuff that is just taking up room.

Hello and welcome. I'm in the same boat and have only of late started to concentrate my purchases. "Purchases" It doesn't mean I don't research or keep my eye out for other potential buys if the right price comes around. In time you will slowly reduce your interest and you will start to focus on what really interests you. I bought myself a nice camera with 42 X zoom capabilities for my coin pictures and a lupe which I now carry with me everywhere. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, its the best way to learn. I have made some and I sure everyone here on this forum has. With so much to learn and to enjoy, making mistakes is unavoidable and acceptable as long as you enjoyed the experience.

Nothing wrong with collecting everything! Eventually a few items probably will strike you to specialize in. If not... so what?! Fun is what a hobby is for.
