Hello all! Back again with my newest discovery. I found this fella today while looking through my mother-in-law's coins. She sets the unsearched coins aside for me :). With only a couple of coins left, this guy popped up! Below are some pictures of the coin and the clipped area. I also noticed was very weird on the rim just opposite of the clipped area and it occurs on both sides.

Let me know what you all think.

That "very weird on the rim just opposite of the clipped area" is the Blakesley Effect:

Nice pick-up!

@Spence! Awesome! I was really, really hoping that the effected area had something to do with making this legitimate. Thanks a million!

No prob glad to help! I'd say that, in typical fashion, I'm really standing on the shoulders of some CCF greats. For example, that link came from a prior thread discussing the Blakesley effect.

I agree with Spence that it is indeed a genuine clipped planchet. Errors, if any, are definitely something worth to be excited about on Korean circulating coinage. A clipped planchet as clear as your example is a great example of only a few major errors that ever seem to escape KOMSCO. Nice find.

That is neat! I have only seen an off center + clipped error 5 won coin and the asking price was quite absurd. I own a couple of Korean error coins but they are from the Empire era. Nice catch!

Thanks gx! I have this and multiple other errors at NGC right now getting graded. When I get them back, I will definitely make a YouTube video to show the world! I really want Koreans to get into error coins.
