.......no-way!

We obviously can't see the coin in-hand. From where I'm sitting I'm saying, is this possible? I'm thinking this coin deteriorated inside the slab. I'm not a grader, so what do I know! What do you think?

Deteriorated or switched at some time. Older holder?

Did you look up the # on PCGS page and see if the picture matches?

I'm guessing it is a victim of a poor rinse following a chemical dipping right before its trip to PCGS. Most likely degraded over time.

It's what's called an awfully ugly 65 now!

Toning does not affect technical grade. It does effect eye appeal, in this case negatively.

As well as value.

Technical Grade +/- Eye Appeal = Value.

Blech! What a shame.

Westernsky, I expect you are correct about how it happened, but I also wonder if being stored improperly -- where it may have been exposed to fumes -- could have done the same damage.

Buddy...

Improper storage surely played a part in this coin's demise.

Chemical residue, hot and cold temp cycling and a little bit of humidity can play heck with a coin.
