Hi folks. I got this coin in pocket change. No cleaning of the coin was done. Not sure if it's mint error or PMD. It's a 2001-D New York. The weight of the coin is 5.6 grams. The whole coin is pitted, which makes me think of acid bath. The wording is weak. I'm new to this site and hope I got most of my pics loaded. I have a close up of the upper OBV of the coin, but the Image Optimizer did not like it. Thanks for your help.

@TXCC, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree that this looks like chemical damage, whether environmental or from an acid bath. Definitely not a mint error and therefore spendable.

That's what I thought to. It's kind of cool looking the way it is though. Just noticed that I messed up on the description. Listed it as Denver, but it's a Philadelphia! To many brain poots today, LOL! Thanks for your help.

For what it's worth, I agree that it is PMD. It may have been corrosion or high heat.

Hey John1- I wondered the same thing. I do a little metal detecting and these clad coins come out of the ground pretty nasty if they have been under awhile. It sure could have been in the ground, but someone would have to dipped it in some acid to get the corrosion off of it.

Hey coop- thanks for that post-it on acid treatment. I didn't know about the edge loss like that on a coin. I appreciate it, learned something new today! I double checked that New York quarter and the edging seems to be normal, so I bet it got a light bath.

Guys, thank you for your welcome and the tips....man keep them coming! Thanks again.
