I'd be hard pressed to figure out how a rim burr got half way to the middle of the coin, but I suppose it is possible. Could it just be PMD? I see a tiny amount of displaced metal at the bottom part of the defect--not enough to explain a normal gouge though. I'm interested to hear others' thoughts.

I'm not sure either Spence. I looked for the missing spot and couldn't find it. I thought maybe it was from another coin. I see a lot of hits on these and this one looks different to me, not to say it couldn't be damage.

Yea, PMD most likely, it does look newer than when minted.

I considered a lamination flaw for a bit, but I think that PMD is the most likely and reasonable answer.
