I went to the bank today and all they had were hand rolled cents so I only got $3. All of the rolls were pre 2000 except one it had a couple 2004. I haven't finished looking closely at them but found this a really nice BIE and some odd die chips I may post later. I might go back tomorrow and see if they have more!

Very nice find! That's a decent example of a Greaser.

It is actually more a product of over polishing. How you can tell is the widthdepth of the devices. Because of the polish, there may be some Grease Fill, but note the heavy polishing lines. This was a last ditch attempt at getting another 1000 off this die.

CrazyBo wouldn't the devices be thicker if the red area in your pics was full of grease. I'm pretty sure on this one

If it were a abraided die (fields reduced) then the devices would be smaller. They are larger because of the grease blockage. (some areas totally filled) The only device on the date that looks reduced is the Middle '9'. So maybe that area was polished. Note the lines in the date area? That was on the planchet, so even the fields were prevented from being struck. So it may be some grit may have filled that device on the '9'. Sure is ugly.

It's definitely a Greaser. The polishing is done usually to remove a clash. The coat area at the date would have been the first to go, but it's strong. The "lines", plating bubbles, are on both sides of the coin and most match up pretty well. That suggests they originated on the planchet. It's not known for sure what causes them, but possibly grease/grime, or tiny scratches from the rollers interfere with the plating process.

Cool. Thanks a lot guys. I really like these ( I think because I haven't found many). I almost bought a couple off ebay the other day. One was both sides really nice and they sold for under $4.
