Whats up with this S mint-mark?

The top part of the S is definitely clogged, but what about the entire S- is it Machine Doubling, a S over another S, Die Deterioration?

Also- look like any valid doubling on the date?

*This is in a 9 Cent plastic holder set - World War II Lincoln Penny Series- 1993-SSCA.*

Very difficult to tell much of anything from the images, none of them are lit well.

From what I can see, though, it appears that not only is the coin reprocessed (plated), but the mintmark is a common effect of eject doubling.

Thanks Chuck,

(Plated!)- now that may explain why all three of the 1943 cents in this set are almost immaculate!

The only thing I am certain of - it has a clogged upper portion of the S.

If these are plated- would there still be signs of toning on them?
2 of the coins have signs of slight brown toning on them and there is signs of wear on the shoulders- these are not mirror like coins- just very very shiny.

Virtually all of the steel cents in those shlocky WWII holders have been replated. MS coins are not always the ones replated, they use worn ones as well and the overplating can tone too.

Look for marks on the rims of BU looking coins. If they have them, they are circulated re plated. Chuckster another good indicator is the bumps you see on your images. re-plating enhances imperfections on coins. Only makes sense as it is adding surface to a circulated/rusted/damage coin. Also die wear from this year was real bad because of the steel/steel contact.

This coin was definitely replated and that is what clogged the mintmark. It is also what causes that "doubling" effect.

They were usually replated with zinc so toning is possible.
