Hi I just found this. I believe it is a lamination error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@johnd589, first welcome to CCF. Second, while your nickel has been stained, it does appear as though there is an area on the rev that has peeled away. Any chance of getting a close-up pic of that area?

It appears that your coin was exposed to something highly corrosive. It looks as though it stained and ate away at the coin surface. I have seen many lams from the pre-war years and war years, some from the late 40's, 50's, and early 60's, but I don't recall any beyond that.

Yes, it's possible to find it on any denomination. It's caused by impurities and/or internal stresses.

It's because the coin was buried. I found a few metal detecting that have the same damage. Every once in awhile I'll come across one CRHing.

Looks like the metal was eaten away. Perhaps a drop of acid placed on the coin that altered the surface. Not a plus for the coin. Spendable.
