In general, how much does a chopmark reduce the value of an Unc Trade dollar? I have an unc details Trade dollar 75-S with a very inconspicuous chopmark on the Reverse Eagle.

There are those that collect chop marks,so it may not reduce the value at all. John1

Agree, given the coin is genuine.

If it has a chop mark, it's not uncirculated.

I don't consider that the value is reduced, but I prefer Trade dollars that don't have any chop marks. Quote: If it has a chop mark, it's not uncirculated.

. Photos would be helpful. Although a smaller group collect the chop marked examples, the possible valuable reduction would depend on the technical grade AND eye appeal, plus the date/mm, plus the position of the cm. All those factors make each TD unique and there is no set percentage deduction.

You should consider getting the coin in a PCGS holder, as PCGS will straight grade Trade dollars with chopmarks. It looks like a nice original Trade dollar.

Looking a past PCGS auction results at Heritage a 1875 S MS62 with chopmarks were selling for about $500 and the MS62 coins without chopmarks were in the $900 range. With the chopmark the coin is most likely going to sell at a reduction.

I have an 1874CC au50 PCGS chopmarked Trade dollar. I got like $400ish into it. I don't consider the coin damaged I consider the chopmarks part of the coins history since the vast majority that were sent to Asia were chopmarked in some way. Some have many some have one. I like them either way, and it acts as a conversation piece. I also agree to send it over to PCGS cause they will straight grade the coin as long as it doesn't have anything else wrong with it like cleaning, rim damage, etc.

Chopmark is minor. Toning looks uneven, if the photos are accurate.
