Not an error at all. Just 100 percent Post Mint Damage from a vise-grip. All numismatic value has been lost. Worth face value. Spend it.

Yep, great pics.
It wasn't a shotgun hit and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a vice.
The pattern isn't random, neither is the fine striated pattern within. It almost looks like the obverse and reverse damage coincides with one another. It's almost always easier to discern what something is not rather than what it is.... But it's a fun game.
