The LCS you went to obviously has little to no knowledge of errors or varieties,so do not go there for this type of stuff. Instead post questions and photos here on CCF. Second, yes your coin shop guy was correct--there is something different about this part of the date. However, the point that we are making is that it isn't special enough to add numismatic value to your coin. You have a very nice condition Wheat cent, so it is good to see it in a 2x2, but it just isn't something that you will be able to retire on.
