I've been looking for a nice example of this note for a long time, and finally found one at the right price. McPherson is one of my favorite Civil War generals, and I've often visited the Vicksburg battle site where he played a major role.

This has the common Tillman/Morgan signature combination and was printed in the 1893-1897 period.

Awesome note, Coinfrog! It amazes me how some of these old notes survived in such great condition.

Buying what you love is always a smart choice and it's EASY to see why you love this one.

Gorgeous, beautiful, lovely, amazing, excellent...

In short (which is hard for me) I love that note too

Thanks everyone. I'm at the stage with large notes where I'd really like to buy "just one" example for my type collection without the likelihood of upgrading someday. This fits the bill (no pun intended ) perfectly. The reverse is quite nice, but the note is already in the vault - I'll try to remember to bring it back.

This is a good strategy across all genres, coins inc. Very often, the search for just the right one can be long and hard and expensive. Just too much to do more than once. (In fact, in a few cases, I just gave up all together.}

Thanks everyone!

After his heroics at Vicksburg, McPherson was killed the following year at the Battle of Atlanta, only 35 years old.
