I was just going through some coins, and as I was admiring the 1950 D nickel that CCF member jprine so generously sent me (among other things) for the 2016 secret Santa exchange, something caught my eye. I took a closer look, and I'm seeing what looks like a doubled die, most evident on the first T in TRUST. I realize that if this really is a DDO on the key of the series it would be a pretty big deal, and since I'm well aware of my own tendency to see what I want to see, I'd like some more experienced members to either confirm it or talk me back to my senses.

MD, and TOO MUCH MAG! 10x-15x, if it is not readily noticible and matching with known examples then yer chasing "metal ghosts", those micro abrasion, contusions, deterioration and a boatload of other normal metal machining effects normal to all.

I also think you are looking way too close. What you see may be minor Die Deterioration effects due to natural metal flow during striking. I appreciate the nice pics, but it's not necessary.

I don't see any clear indicators of a doubled die there. There are no 1950-D DDs listed, and I think they would have been found by now. (I know that's not a concrete argument )

That's what I feared. Oh well, thanks.
I guess I got a bit carried away with the magnification.

What you are seeing here is the effect of Die Deterioration from die wear.

. When you get to billboard size for any coin, every one will have something suspicious. But you are asking the right questions.

The coin is in VLDS, showing die wear towards the rim. Thus the heavy flow lines. But the coin is a keeper. It is a low mintage coin. That year the lower mintage was announced and a lot of rolls were saved. When you look up prices for this year the circulated coins prices don't show a big difference. All because more were saved in BU. If they had not of announced that the, the BU coins prices would have been higher.
