Hello all my name is Ed from California and New to this I bought this 1989 P dime thinking I scored but was told it was made to look this way?! I'm really confused of how it can be made to look this way by someone other than the mint. Please advise any info would be appreciated! I'm a newbie so sorry for the bad vocab *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by Brothasouled 04/27/2018 01:52 am

I moved your post to the appropriate section for the proper attention. Looks like the dime has damage from circulation: the edge appears to have been hit with a hammer

to CCF! The coin has definite damage ( PMD). I can't tell quite what it is because the pic is blurry. Can you post clearer pics of both sides?

I was gonna say @Crazybo that I thought I just saw one just like that pretty recently. Where did you buy it if you don't mind me asking Broutha?

You've been had. It's all damage. It's worth face value. Hope you didn't pay to much

But hang out here and learn what to look for as real mint errors. If you can't get your money back on your coin, keep it as a lesson. It will remind you next time to know what you are buying better before you buy nest time.

Don't feel bad about this. I doubt there's a collector that hasn't made some sort of misstep at some point. I, for one, overpaid for the first couple of coins I bought and then went on to repeat the mistake a few more times. I just didn't know to do my homework before buying.
