Is it hollow? Can you open it? How does it sound when you drop it on granite countertop?

It used to be two real coins until they were machined into two halves (of a half ) to fit together in some way (there are different methods).

It is real, it's just been tampered with. Look on Y-tube to see how they are made, very precision work. Search for 'The Making of a Magician's coin'.

It is hollow until the back half is inserted and yes, you can open it.Don't know how it sounds on granite, would you settle for formica?

Let's see pictures of it opened up. Plus the reeded edge.

You can insert it in to a sturdy glass and shake. This generally will separate the two pieces. Magician coins are sold with a "bang ring" to separate the pieces. Google it for details. I bought mine separately and it was not much.

Great find. I found a 1964 nickel last year that had a double head. Congrats!
