So I was looking on ebay, and they're saying that die cap errors are rare on Wheat penny's....is this true? The more I read, the more I think I should get it graded.

You might contact Mike Diamond to see what he thinks it is and price. Send him some images. Check err-ref.com The price issue is kind of a private thing. Or you could invite him to take a look?

@bezo816, would you mind posting overall pics of the front and back of this coin? At the moment, I only see one of the rev, and it is a bit dark and out of focus. Sorry to rain on your parade, but I'm not convinced that you actually have anything more than a cent with one side more worn than the other.

I am with Spence on the doubt list. I see what others are looking at to make their call but I'm not sure. If Mr. Diamond supports the struck through capped die idea I don't think slabbing it will add any value.

Slabbing will probably cost more than you would get for this error. Thus unless it is worth $100+, I would not slab it.

I just seen on a coin show I trust, that to send a coin to PCGS it cost from $80-$120 to send in one coin, and that does not include the cost of the coin.Just to give you an idea of all costs involved. John1

Just Got a message in from Mike Diamond: Quote:
Hi Coop.
A whole-coin image of the obverse would have helped. Based on what I've seen so far, it looks to have been struck through a very late-stage die cap.

Who is Mike Diamond, and how would I get ahold of him. Thank you again for walking me through this process. Hopefully, these will help. It's the best I can do with my phone...the camera sucks.

Oh yeah Coop, you did. I just message him again, telling him that Bezo816 now has full images of his coin, since Mike Diamond needed full images.
