This 1990 cent looks like it has a die crack at the bottom of the N in cent. Is this correct or is it a strange die chip?

The die crack is flowing NE off the top of the 'N' also. The die is under a lot of stress moving the metal around for the coin. So when it can't take anymore, then it cracks. The more strikes after that will make the die continue to crack.

I didn't even see the one coming off of the top of the N, thanks for pointing that out. So Coop, what you are saying is there are 1990 cents that might show shorter or longer variations of this die crack floating out there somewhere.

Hopefully @coop doesn't mind me replying that this is 100% true.

Yes. If you found another one, then it maybe shorter or longer than your coin. So what does that tell you. That they are either earlier or later die states of the same dies coin. (Longer=later die state) (Shorter or no die crack= earlier die state) That is how you can read your die. But in order for this to work, it would have to be from the same die, not just another random die. So how could you find examples of the same die? In OBW rolls. That is where to look. When you got through a roll and spot something that there maybe more in the same roll, set them aside. If you have 5 rolls of from the same batch, you may find more of the same thing, but when you start looking closer, you may see if the die changes with time. Examples before or after sometimes can be found. This is how I was able to make a GIF of Memorial die chips. I found several examples and put them in order:

I had to teach myself how to do this, but it makes a nice presentation.

Nice die crack find. Most are on the corners of the Memorial so anytime you can find one elsewhere, it's a nice find, imo
