My first impression was that the left end if the base of the "2" in the date suffered from a die break (or maybe a partially filled die), but after viewing under magnification at different angles & light intensities, it appears that the anomaly could be a Cud.

In some views, it looks like part of the "2" is missing, and in other views, it looks like the "2" has some extra material. One view even appears to show a possible doubled-die condition (or Mechanical Doubling?)

The MM also appears to be Repunched.

What is the consensus from the experts?

The 2 looks like it was hit by another coin, it is just damage. Cuds are only on the rim.

The 2 also has MD not a doubled die.

RPMs stopped occurring in 1990 as that is when they stopped adding the mintmark by hand.

RPM on a 2006 coin - sheesh! I knew that. Really!

However, I thought Cuds could be anywhere on a coin - simply an extra layer of material left behind or squeezed up over the edge of a device during the strike. I'm still learning!

I was pretty sure the doubling was MD, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks for setting me straight on all accounts.

Actually a Cud is when the edge of a die breaks off, not when there's extra material. What you're describing is a struck through.

Always happy to help!

When a device or field is invented, it is a very large chance the coin had a bad day. PSD. (Post-Strike-Damage)
