Not THE Antoninus Pius.

Two additional emperors were named Antoninus Pius. The first was Caracalla, thus named for political reasons because his father Septimius Severus was the first to firmly establish himself after the death of Commodus.

The second was Elagabalus; Caracalla's cousin's son. His real name was Bassianus, but he was renamed Antoninus Pius to increase acceptance of the false rumor that he was the late emperor's illegitimate child.

I think your coin is a young Caracalla.

Good job!I had a feeling it wasnt Antoninius Pius. The portrait didnt look right.

I cant find any Caracalla with a seated right reverse

I did look at Elagabalus.. and I did see many with those reverses

Could it be Elagabalus instead?
Cheers.

Coinnewbie3 - Nice clear photos, but they'd really benefit from cropping before posting. The optimizer "app" on his website allows you to accomplish this rather easily.

I am not really happy about it being authentic, about 75% sure that it isn't.
Surface texture consistent with casting, and the style around the mouth area all wrong.

I suspect that if you looked into the radial edge cracks with a 10X loupe, you would find them filled with black stuff, which would prevent proper checking for tensile metal distress within those cracks.

I sure hope that I am wrong, but I still feel uneasy.

I will check my copy of R.I.C. for type later, but I will start off down the Caracalla path.

Better pictures with edge as well.
Leaning much more towards genuine.

@cn3, just a small thing, but you definitely shouldn't hold your coins with metal tweezers. I'm sure that you are very careful, but I'm worried that you'll accidentally scratch your coin.
