I don't think that's a Dime. That's a Quarter blank that you have there! These are rare to find and thank God she didn't spend this. Very nice find! Make sure you perserve this by putting it in a 2x2 coin flip. http://www.error-ref.com/blank-or-planchet-2/

You're very welcome! That's what we're here for. Oh it's a Dime Blank, my bad! Sorry about that. The pictures makes it look like a Quarter Blank, but you told me, so it's good. Save that and put it in a 2x2 coin flip as soon as possible.

Probably a slug. Note it is not clad. To be that color and not be clad only leaves a nickel. looks to thin to be a nickel. So try to pick it up with a magnet? The I found recently sticks like it is steel.

Yeah try to pick it up with a magnate. I would say it's a dime planchet if it doesn't stick

If it was a dime, the cladding would be present. (Unless it's silver)

Diameter seems close or plausible, but not exactly lined up with ruler. What does the edge look like? Also what is the weight? Appears planchet like in most images and slug like in one. Thanks, Doug.

I don't have anything to weigh it with at the moment. I will do that tomorrow.

Metal tweezers and coins don't mix.

Seems to be something sandwiched there, with a beveled edge. If its a copper filling that's an indicator its a clad planchet.
Typical (clad) US dime weight 2.268grams, +/- 0.091grams. Thanks, Doug.
Adding: like finger prints, metal on metal not recommended with coins of value. If it leaves a mark on a circulated coin, few will notice. If its an uncirculated coin, value could drop more than half due to a tiny nick or blemish.

In the future, please DON'T use tweezers to hold the coin. You could cause great damage to your coin and lower the value of your coin.

Its kind of like using vise grips to carry eggs with. Not liking that idea at all.

Sorry about posting this again. I found out it's silver, not clad, and it weighs 2.52.
I just meant to update this post.
