Meow thinks that would be ideal too. But PCGS versions of the same coins would have cost as much as 50% more. And Meow read, buy the coin and not the holder; Many times on forums. But the PCGS holder is nicer. Meow has a few War Nickels in PCGS, and they are real shiny and pretty too. Meow's first coins purchased where those Nickels. At least War Nickels can be affordable in PCGS higher grades. Meow's collection started with a PCGS MS66FS 1943d nickel.

Yes - definitely buy the coin and not the holder.

Remember a graded coin, once broken out, is never guaranteed the same grade. Plus the grade can vary depending on the company it is sent to. Each company has its own set of standards.

As to fakes, search the forum here for some great posts on them.

Since you are a graphic artist, you should be able to do some overlays when in doubt.

As to taking decent pics - its really not that hard with a cell phone. Here is a GREAT thread by member Darth Morgan.

I improvised with 5.00 Walmart desk lamps. It is not purrrrfect, but until I get serious about coin photography, it will do:

Meow should knock off the third party references, it's annoying.

A Cat does what a Cat does. Try herding us, and you will find out.

Meow sees the very ingenious ways one can go about taking good photos without professional equipment. Thanks for sharing.

And thank you all for your input. Well, besides the Cat hater.
