Hard to say if 1100$ was too much. Sometimes you have to pay up to get what you have been looking for.
If YOU like it is really all that matters.

It sold 13 years ago for almost $1,400, so if you're happy that's all that matters. I don't necessarily care for the holder, but you can fix that. Since then, my expectations have changed. Now it's more important for a note to have original paper, regardless of the grade. You pay more for similar graded notes with EPQ/PPQ, but to me it's worth the additional expense. Edited by SteveInTampa

I see you chose the BIN option. It may have been worth bidding on it instead. But if you like it, that's really all that matters.

Average to slightly high price for that condition range.
It took me almost two years to find one I liked, so they can't be considered too common.

Steve - That's crazy you found this note in an auction from 2005! Wow! I don't care for the holder either.. It's almost like a coin holder. I'll probably pull it out of that and protect it in one of my standard currency sleeves so I can mess around with it for a bit. That's what I do with my stuff but I'll probably get it all graded if I ever sell. Seller actually had the note at a BIN of $1,250 which I thought was about fair market. I messaged him and said if he lowered it to $1,100 I'd BIN. Looking at other auctions, like the one below, I felt that $1,100 would be a good enough price for me. The note below seems to be in much worse condition to me and since I live in CA I would've had to pay $75 in taxes on top of the winning bid, making it the same price as the note I bought. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1928-500-F...372334595606I'm hoping it looks good in person, it looks pretty nice in the Heritage Auctions page you found Steve. 30-35 seems like the sweet spot for me where I get a good price but also get a pretty crisp note with good eye appeal. |

I wanted to follow up on this thread.. After the ebay seller marked the bill as 'shipped' he never uploaded a tracking number. I waited about a week for the bill and when nothing arrived, I started thinking I got ripped off. I began looking around the web for an alternative bill to purchase and actually ended up finding that EXACT bill / pictures in use on another auction site, this time being used by a more reputable seller who actually had the bill. Thank God for ebay's buyer protection, I got all my money back for the fraudulent purchase. Anyways, I kept on the hunt for another bill and coincidentally another one that fit my criteria popped up. 1928 San Francisco $500, serial number 302!! I've never seen such a low-serial $500 before! Kind of a trip to think this bill was one of the first $500 bills ever to be allocated to the SF district. I had a new credit card where I had to spend a certain amount to get a $200 statement credit, so the price of the bill was $1,200 and with the credit I ended up paying $999 for it. It came graded in a PMG holder at 30 but I cut it out of there so I could enjoy it in a more hands-on manner. Very exciting to finally own a high-denomination note! Now I wonder if I'll ever find a $1,000 for $2,000 or less...   |

Glad it all ended well for you!
I think I can see a couple of repairs on the note. Looks like a corner was replaced (front, lower right corner) and a tear was mended (front bottom to the right of center).
Was their any mention about repairs by the seller or on the slab?
Still a nice note!

Very nice note, had to be in a "details" holder. Intrest in large denominations has picked up lately around here...Not sure why? Looks like premiums have gone up on 500 & 1000

westernsky - Yes, the slab mentioned repairs as well as the seller. I think they did a good job with them. You can tell on the reverse side but not really on the front. And fortunately on the back, the repairs don't cut into the print area, it's just around the edges. I'm all about eye appeal / crispness so this bill provided a good 'bang for the buck' given my priorities.
babysitr - It was marked 'NET' by PMG which I think is similar to the 'details' you're referring to.
I'll keep it as-is for now but am curious, do you guys know of anyone who's good at repairing bills? I'd imagine the corner repair could be done a bit better than it was.
