*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

I have seen two pennies like this so far in going through my huge change jar, is that an error or does age do that?

Is it like that in just one area, or all around. If just one area and it gets stronger, it might be a partial collar. If it is just that area, that maybe just damage to the coin. The sometimes get used like screwdrivers, used to raise some to level it. It s hard to think of what they have been used for.

geez, put this usb microscope in the hands of an inexperienced person, lol. I keep seeing all kinds of things. I started putting all the same years together so that I can compare them.

I am seeing that kind of edge on quite a few so it must be something somewhat common.

Is it common to have letters worn off like this on older pennies?
Rest in Peace

Can't be sure with the single image. Fewer people pay attention to the coins edge. Anomalies do occur there as well.

Also common on business strikes the proto rim does not always strike up perfectly into the expected design rim. Sometimes the edge is flatten or squared off and sometimes not so much. Maybe another ten thousands of second under pressure would make a difference on those. Thanks, Doug.

More pics, including full coin, would help.
